TANINTHARYI DIVISION – Locals reported that the junta-appointed ward administrators announced on Friday night (May 4) that non-locals staying at Kanpauk Town must be registered on guest lists.
There are 11 wards in Kanpauk Town and the guest lists must be registered at the home of the assigned administrative officer.
“The team making the announcement (on a car using loud speakers) just passed the main roads, not thoroughly going around the town. As if they were afraid of being attacked, the car drove away as soon as they made the announcement,” said a local.
It was not mentioned when the guest list registration would be started or how exactly the fines and (legal) actions would be taken if no registration was made but they announced that both the guests and house owners would be charged (for not following their rules).
“I think it is their way of fundraising (extorting from the locals) and may be a protective measure for their security,” a PDF member expressed his thoughts on the guest list registry.
According to the legislation made by the junta regime, those who failed to register a guest list could be charged ten thousand MMK or not more than 7 days of imprisonment.
