SHAN STATE – The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) announced in an official report that the junta council broke the ceasefire agreement and stormed the TNLA camp in In Kyaukme Township, in Northern Shan State and that TNLA, to prevent harm to the people, temporarily retreated the camp.
On January 13, at 9:18 a.m., a battle broke out in Kyaukme Township between the PSLF/TNLA and the terrorist junta army that launched an offensive. Kyaukme based junta council’s 501 and 502 regiments came and attacked the PSLF/TNLA camp on the Nyeinchanyay Kone (Peace Hill). After a 2-hour encounter, PSLF/TNLA temporarily retreated from the Nyeinchanyay Kone, concerned that the people would be affected by the war and to avoid huge damages.
TNLA said that the terrorist junta council blatantly violated the ceasefire agreement that was hotly struck on January 11 by launching an offensive and that this action of the junta council is the second violation of the ceasefire agreement.
It is reported that on January 12, the junta council army attacked the positions of PSLF/TNLA with heavy weapons in Kyaukme, Mogok and Lashio Townships.
In addition, at around 12:00 noon on January 13, the army of the junta council fired heavy weapons into the village of Leigyi Taw, in Nawnghkio Township, the northern part of Shan State, and a resident was injured in the head. The patient was sent to the hospital.
“Junta light infantry battalion 115 in Nawnghkio fired heavy weapons. It was at 12 noon. A villager was injured in the head. They are still firing with heavy weapons. The injured man has been sent to the hospital. The junta army is still firing after saying that there is a ceasefire,” said a resident of Nawnghkio.
With China’s intervention, a cease-fire was agreed between the military council and the Three Brotherhood Alliance starting on January 11, and the agreement includes not to bombard with airplanes and not to fire with heavy weapons to the camps and cities captured by the Three Brotherhood Alliance. On the other hand, the Three Brotherhood Alliance agreed to not engage in battles to capture more cities and camps.
