KARENNI STATE – The Karenni Human Rights Group stated junta troops have destroyed 40 houses in Htipawso and Dawnyekhu Villages in Hpruso Township between August 24 and 26.
“The military troops usually have a habit of destroying houses (burning them down) as they leave the villages. The troops arrived at Dawnyekhu and Htipawso, and would head to Hpruso Town. They took shelter in the houses when they entered the village and burnt them down on the way out. That was their predictable habit,” said Mr. Banyar, the founder of the Karenni Human Rights Group.
On Saturday morning (August 26), at least 10 civilian houses in Dawnyekhu Village were set on fire, and at least 30 houses in Htipawso Village were set on fire between August 24 to August 26 by the junta troops.
Mr. Banyar, the founder of the Karenni Human Rights Group, commented that the junta troops may have put the bodies of their comrades who died in the battles inside these houses they burnt down.
Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) also released a report on August 26 that the junta column that marched from Demoso to Hpruso Township on August 2 burnt down seven houses: five in Htipawso; and two in Dawnyekhu Village.
The exact number of houses that were burned down by the military council during the current military operation could not be verified yet.
The KNDF statement also said that the junta troops and the joint Karenni local defence forces are still fighting along the Demoso-Hpruso Union road, and the junta forces facing losses are torching the civilian houses in the area.
Moreover, the junta council has been conducting aerial attacks and long-ranged heavy weapon attacks almost daily, resulting in the damage of more homes and religious buildings.
