SAGAING DIVISION – It is known from the Inn Daw People’s Defence Force (PDF) that a junta council column led by female soldiers was hit with mines when it entered the village of Thanbo in the Meza Area of Inn Daw Township, Sagaing Division, killing four junta troops.
On the morning of June 16, about 70 junta troops, including female soldiers from junta light infantry battalion 416, which departed from Nant Thae Village to Thanbo Village, were ambushed by Inn Daw PDF near Nant Thae Village, as reported by the information officer from Inn Daw PDF.
“Early yesterday morning (June 16), they came in a column from Nant Thae (Village) towards Thanbo. The Inn Daw Defence Forces from this side attacked them with two landmines at the exit of Nant Thae Village. Four of them were directly caught in the blast, and died on the spot,” said the officer.
The time of attack was said to be 7:00 in the morning, and the attacked junta column reportedly stationed overnight in Thanbo Village on that day then entered Nant Ma Hope Kalay Village the next morning (June 17). Due to this operation, the civilians from four villages: Meza, Nant Ma Hope Kalay, Thanbo, and Nant Thae are fleeing.
“If the junta column comes, we have to run. They always open fire wildly when they enter the villages. We heard the gunshots, both last night and this morning (June 16 and 17). There was also heavy artillery fire,” said a local man.
The junta column is reported to have entered the villages and searched and looted the civilian houses, taking valuable items and firing large and small weapons recklessly, causing the local residents to panic.
Out of the villages whose residents had to flee due to the junta column’s invasion, Meza Village has more than 300 houses while Thanbo, Nant Thae, and Nant Ma Hope Kalay Villages have more than 100 houses each, and it is said that thousands of people have fled into the forest.
The reported column is the same column that launched an offensive into Meza Region from the junta base in Inn Daw Township five days ago. Before entering Nant Thae, it entered the villages of Nat Ma Hope Gyi and Le Naung, and the locals had to flee.
