BAGO DIVISION- People’s Defense Force of Paunde reportedly shot and eliminated a village administrator in Paukhaung Township, in the western part of Bago where martial law has been declared, last Wednesday (August 16).
Mr. Zaw Lin Aung, a 50-year-old administrator of Takhauk Village, Innga Khwa Village tract, Paukhaung Township, was shot dead in front of his house while playing Chinlone (a traditional game using cane ball).
He was shot 4 times and got killed after being hit in the pubic area, waist, and thighs.
“The village administrator stood in awe hearing the warning shot to disperse the crowd, was eliminated by the successive shots. He died on the spot,” said PPDF’s intelligence officer.
It is said that the attack was carried out by the PPDF Battalion 3601, Company 5 of the Paunde Township People’s Defense Force as a part of the “Nan Htike Aung” operation.
The village administrator Zaw Lin Aung reportedly asked for money from rickshaws and truck drivers and punched people if they can’t pay. He also took bribes (line fees) from gambling clubs for the military council.
Last April 19, Paukhaung Township’s Taphankaing Village Administrator, Mr. Aye Naing, was cleared by the Paunde PDF between Taphankaing and Kyopinwine Village.
On February 2, 2023, the military council declared martial law in Nattalin, Oakpho, Paukhaung, and Paunde Townships in the west of the Bago region.
