MON STATE- According to people close to the military council, the new prison in Mawlamyine which is under construction near Minywa village was bombed by a drone on Saturday afternoon (October 14).
At around 11:00 a.m. on October 14, the armed resistance forces attacked the new Mawlamyine prison area by dropping 3 bombs with a drone.
Due to the drone attack, the central prison’s roof, ceiling, and some parts of the building including the glass doors were damaged. The prison staff and workers were not harmed.
After the drone attack on the new prison, the junta troops conducted a search operation near the scene and along the Mawlamyine -Kyaikmaraw Road, reported the residents.
Last June 23, the newly constructed prison was visited by the Mon State Chief Minister Mr. Aung Kyi Thein, and officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Prison Department.
It is reported by people close to the military council that about 95% of the construction, including the centralized three-story building, two-story prisoner building, dining hall, and fencing are completed at the new Mawlamyine Prison.
