AYEYARWADDY DIVISION – The junta council’s Township General Administration and Municipal Departments fined over 30 stores in Nyaungdon Township at least 10 lakhs Kyats for not selling junta produced Myanmar Beer, reported the store owners.
The General Administration department led group searched the bars and alcohol shops in Sarmalaut and Tarkway Villages as well as Ward No. 6, Ward No. 8 and Panhlaing Ayeyar Ward to see if they have the junta product, Myanmar Beer, in stock, said an owner of an alcohol retail store.
“They checked if we sell Myanmar Beer at the shop. If they didn’t find it, they threatened to sue under the Excuse Law. General Administration, Municipal and Police forces went around searching the urban wards and the villages,” said the owner.
It is said that at least 30 alcohol shops and bars and restaurants were fined around 10 lakhs per shop during said round of inspection for not selling Myanmar Beer.
“Even though I tried to reason that we had ran out of stock, they didn’t accept it. I had to pay ten lakhs. They said it’s for alcohol license fees and fines. Some shops were also forcibly made to pay,” shared a restaurant owner from Sarmalaut Village who had to make the payment.
Previously in June, junta municipal and general administration staff similarly checked the alcohol shops in Nyaungdon Township and fined the shops that don’t sell Myanmar Beer at least six lakhs.
