SAGAING DIVISION – According to the defence forces, the junta reinforcement column that came to Tigyaing and the local defence forces are fighting in two places in the eastern part of town.
On November 30, the battle to take over Tigyaing Town resumed, and there have been fierce fights in Mya Thein Tan Mountain and the military has reportedly been using air strikes for five days in a row.
“There’s only one place left to be occupied. The peak of the mount with a stone pagoda on it. Up there is a junta bunker, the only place left to seize,” said a member of the revolutionary forces regarding the battles in Tigyaing.
On Sunday (December 3) at around 4 a.m., it was reported that about 100 junta troops came down from Tagaung and Taungtalone to provide reinforcements to Tigyaing.
The aforementioned junta reinforcement column and the defence forces clashed in eastern Tigyaing, in Phoongongyi Village, which is about two miles away from Mya Taung Village where the army is stationed.
At 5 a.m. on December 4, that junta column joined forces with the remaining troops at Mya Taung Village, and fighting is still going on there, a revolutionary leader stated.
“There has been continuous fighting since yesterday (December 3) at both Mya Taung and the mountain in Tigyaing Town,” said a revolutionary leader.
In December 3 battle, a member of the local defence force reportedly lost his life. During the clashes from November 30 to December 3, one PDF member was seriously injured, and due to the air strikes two more were reportedly injured.
The battle to take over the town of Tigyaing began on November 10 and on the 15th, the defence forces ceased fire (temporarily).
During those battles, three defense force personnel were reportedly killed. From November 10 to 30, as a result of the airstrikes, more than 120 people including children were killed, and almost the entire town of Tigyaing was destroyed by fire.
