SHAN STATE – A total of 40 soldiers and policemen from the columns with strength of 20 each, one led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Tun Soe Thein, who fled when the TNLA occupied the Namhsan police station, and the column with nearly 20 terrorist soldiers led by Major/Captain Kyaw Thu Htwe from Commando Hill, Namhsan Township, Northern Shan State, were reported to have died in the battle on December 12.
On December 11, at 4:00 a.m., when the TNLA attacked and captured the police station in Namhsan, a column led by Lt. Col. Tun Soe Thein with strength of 20 joined fled from their station and joined with the camp led by Captain Kyaw Thu Htwe of the 254th Infantry Battalion in the commando hill. Then, TNLA attacked the joint convoy on December 12, killing all of them.
In addition, 25 of the 70 reinforcements deployed by the Junta Council by helicopter to defend the junta council’s camp ‘Sakhan Thit Kon’ in Namkham were also killed in the battle with TNLA on December 12 and fled in chaos.
