KACHIN STATE – After KIA (Kachin Independence Army) captured the junta council’s Maliyang outpost in Waingmaw Township on Friday morning (August 4), junta forces carried out airstrikes at around 11:30 a.m., said a Kachin military source.
“Two fighter jets bombed at around 11:30 a.m. They flew off from Tada U Airbase,” said the source. The damages from the airstrikes are still being investigated.
In the one month after the junta council launched offensives into Namsanyang on July 3, battles broke out on the Myitkyina-Bhamo Road as well as in Waingmaw Township and Moemauk Township and the junta council also carried out at least four airstrikes.
According to the military source, when KIA attacked Maliyang outpost on the Myitkyina-Bhamo Road, junta troops there ran away.
“There are still dogs (junta forces) at the outpost on the other side of Mali Creek. No one’s staying at the captured outpost, not even us,” said the source, adding that the exact information of junta casualties during the capture of Maliyang outpost is not known yet.
General Naw Bu, the spokesperson for KIA, was contacted about the battle at Maliyang but has not replied yet.
A local news site meanwhile reported that Maliyang outpost was captured on August 3 and that the junta council suffered heavy casualties.
