BAGO DIVISION – In Nyaunglebin District, Kyaukhtu Township, Paenwegone Town, there have been fierce clashes between the junta troops and resistance forces since December 27. During the battle, Commander Lt. Col. Min Htin Aung reportedly received a shrapnel injury and the foreign body was still implanted in his body.
Starting December 26, 2023, Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People’s Defence Force (PDF) alliance forces attacked Natthankwin Town in Kyaukgyi Township, Bago Division. After that, the revolutionary forces marched towards Paenwegone Town adjacent to Natthankwin. A fierce battle took place on December 29, and the military council troops bombarded Paenwegone Town with planes every day. The first rank officer and the commander of the Southern Regional Military Command, who was in charge of the front-line troops during the Paenwegone Battle, Lieutenant Colonel Min Htin Aung was reported injured in a bomb blast.
“The G1, Commander Min Htin Aung was reportedly injured in a bomb blast during Paenwegone Battle. He received injuries all over his head, face and body and it is reported that the shrapnels have not been removed completely. He is an important officer at the Southern Military Command Headquarters. The person who was in charge of the frontline battlefield is now injured and in a bad condition,” said a military source.
The resistance forces have launched offensives in Bago Division including Kyaukkyi, Kyauktaga and Phyu Townships, and they have even launched an offensive at Kanyutkwin Township, which is only over 100 miles away from Yangon.
