KACHIN STATE – It is reported that Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the Kachin People’s Defence Forces (KPDF) attacked three camps near Salzin Village where junta and Shan Ni Army (SNA) militia forces are stationed and the fights are still going on.
The firefight has been going on since 5:00 p.m. Thursday (August 10). Although Pinchel Camp was seized (by joint KIA-KPDF forces), clashes are still going on at Nantkathar Village and Thanyawzin Hill area, according to a KIA source.
“The fight went on at three places. The one near Salzin Village has quiet down. The other two places are far from Salzin. Nankathar is closer to Shan State and more inland. The fights are still going on the inland side,” he said.
The fighting took place in Sagaing Division, Homelin Township, which is separated from Salzin Village of Kachin State by Uru Creek. It is reported that the military troops stationed in Salzin Village are reportedly firing heavy weapons at the areas where the clashes are currently taking place.
At least 40 members of the Shan Ni Army (SNA) are said to have been killed in the battle, but not yet been independently confirmed.
Since a junta column from Yaypawmi Village came for reinforcement to the battle zone, the military situation may continue to be tense.
