KACHIN STATE – Colonel Nawbu, in charge of the Kachin Independence Army’s (KIA) information department, confirmed that junta’s Kathinetaung camp in Hpakant was attacked and captured.
In the early morning of August 7, KIA and People’s Defense Force (PDF) joint forces attacked the terrorist army camp on Hpakant-Tarmahkan road and occupied it.
“Since around 5 o’clock this morning, our 6th battalion under Brigade (9) attack junta outposts in Kathinetaung (in Kachin we called “Katsen Bum”). So far, we were able to seize all the junta camps and we have news that our teams have cleared the area,” Colonel Norbu said.
KIA usually releases information about casualties in battle only when necessary.
According to local news sources, in the battle of Kathinetaung Camp, there were casualties from the junta council troops. Many junta soldiers reportedly ran away and weapons and ammunition had been seized.
A local said that in Sezin area of Hpakant Township, there were ongoing battles between KIA/PDF joint forces against junta council and Shan Ni (the Red Shan) Army joint force.
KIA also attacked and occupied some military council camps on Myitkyina – Bhamo road in the last few days.
