KACHIN STATE – The junta hill camp and police station in Wheykha Village, Hpakant Township were attacked by the joint forces of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and People’s Defence Force (PDF) in the early morning of January 6. It is said that the revolutionary forces managed to capture the hill camp while the junta council bombed the area using a fighter jet.
KIA and PDF joint forces launched the attack on the military camp and police station on January 6 at 4:57 a.m.
“We captured the Wheykha military camp at 7:45 a.m. The junta council bombed it at 8:15 a.m. We have also received news that there will be more aerial attacks,” said a curve close to the KIA PDF joint forces.
A resident civilian shared that “the sounds of battle were short but intense. My heart was beating so fast. Now the junta council is bombing with a plane.”
The exact details of the battle are still unclear but it is reported that a junta jet that took off from Myitkyina bombed the area till 9 a.m.
“We have to dig bomb shelters. The public need to have security awareness in this situation,” said a resident.
