SAGAING DIVISION – A shootout ensued after junta hidden sentries in Khonmingyi Ward of Butalin signalled to the PDF (People’s Defence Force) soldiers, mistaking them to be on their side and three junta troops were killed, said a local defence force leader.
Junta sentries reportedly called up to the PDF troops who were on their way to attack the junta forces at the Butalin General Administration office and Myanma Economic Bank, leading to the shootout around 10 a.m. on September 7.
“Our initial target was the junta forces stationed at the general administration office and Myanma Economic Bank. We ran into the junta hidden sentries on the way. They thought we were from their side and called out to us. We took the initiative, aware that they were junta dogs (junta troops). Three junta dogs died on the spot. We also managed to confiscate one G3 rifle. Because we took the initiative, we didn’t suffer any harm,” said the local defence force leader.
Although the junta forces conducted searches in Butalin following the shootout, members of the defence forces are said to be unharmed.
