TANINTHARYI DIVISION – The junta troops stationing at Chaungnyiko Village Monastery were ambushed and there was an exchange of fire, reported the PDFs.
The Kutdaungtaman Special Column stated that about 30 junta soldiers stationed at the monastery were attacked at around 2 p.m. on June 6 and the firefight lasted for about an hour.
After the attack, the junta Artillery Batallion 306 is said to have fired 120mm shells toward the Chaungnyiko-Ranpho-Banlamut Villages area which they suspect to be the route the PDF members used to withdraw.
The Kutdaungtaman Force also reported that ten junta soldiers were killed and two PDF members were injured during that attack.
The alliance forces of Kutdaungtaman Column, KTLA-TCJF force, and Tanintharyi People’s Defence Forces reportedly launched the attack.
“The junta troops have been stationing at Chaungnyiko Village Monastery since May 31 when their convoy from Myeik Township was blasted by landmines three times on the way at Rampho, Banlamut, and Chaungnyiko Villages,” stated the spokesperson of Tawbombkyi PDF, Mr. Money.
After the reported attack on June 6, the backup junta troops from Myeik Township reportedly raided and stationed themselves at the nearby villages of Chaungnyiko such as Rampho and Banlamut Villages and searched the jungles, stated the PDFs.
“The backup junta forces have been advancing towards the Rampho-Banlamut area and even towards the Pyidaungsu Highway,” stated Mr. Sai Nyi, the spokesperson of KTLA-TCJF.
The military tensions have risen in Tanintharyi Township and the PDF requested the locals to refrain from traveling unless necessary.
Just recently on June 1, two houses in Banlamut Village were destroyed in the heavy shellings by the junta troops stationed at Santhit Village.
