KARENNI STATE – Karenni Army (KA) Commander-in-Chief Colonel Bone Naing stated that a military council base in Mese Township, Karenni State, was seized on June 23 by the Karenni Joint Forces.
“We seized the Mese base camp at 5:30. At 5:30 and then at 6:00, 4 junta planes arrived and bombed. There is a hill in front of Mese main camp, the main hill. Taung Hla, Sanhi, 14, Mae Ta Nwe, and Nam Pao in the north, Mese is the main camp that communicates with junta camp on the same side of the border,” Karenni Army (KA) Commander-in-Chief Colonel Bone Naing said.
The Karenni Joint Forces have attacked and captured the junta’s council camps in Mese Township and near the Thai border since June 13, and total 4 military council camps have been seized, including the camp captured today (June 23), Colonel Bone Naing added.
“From June 13 to 23, 3 junta camps have been permanently seized and now there are 4 of them. The first is the Taung Hla, Mae Ta Nwe then 14, now Mese, we have seized 4 of their camps. There is no junta forces returning back to station,” Colonel Bone Naing said.
It is reported that the military council has not yet been able to recapture the seized camps. Mese Township is an important area for both the Karenni Joint Forces and Junta’s Council. It is said that they are supplying ration and reinforcing soldiers by helicopters.
“It is important for the both sides. It is important for them (junta’s council) to stay in power for life. What is also important for us is that we have to keep the territory to regain it,” Colonel Bone Naing continued.
It is reported that during the fighting that took place in Mese Township, the Karenni Joint Forces seized 120 mm heavy weapons as well as a variety of small arms. There are tens of deaths on the side of the junta council, and there are many soldiers of the junta council who have fled the camp, according to Colonel Bone Naing.
