SHAN STATE – Fighting is going on in Momeik Township of Northern Shan State and Sinkin Village was bombed by the military council in the evening of January 4.
The military council launched an airstrike on Momeik city where there has been ongoing fighting since January 1 for the second time on January 4.
“A (junta) plane just bombed Sinkin village,” said a local.
At 6:00 a.m. on January 1, the KIA and joint defence forces launched an attack on Manpa Village in Momeik Township and at around 9:30 in the morning, the junta council dropped three bombs with a jet plane.
Then starting January 3, TNLA and the joint defence forces have been fighting against the military council. So, Sinkin and Manpa Villages and the vicinity of these villages and many people from Momeik city are also said to be fleeing the war.
“The junta council has taken up positions on top of schools and buildings in the city and is firing from there,” said a person close to the 515th Battalion based in Momeik.
Since there is a military council camp in Sinkin Village, the TNLA and joint defence forces are trying to take over the camp while the junta council has been firing heavy weapons continuously and also started bombarding from the air.
“During the battle at Sinkin, the junta troops from the city provided cover fire about once every hour. Since the battle started yesterday (January 3), they have been firing heavy weapons all night. Today’s battle for Sinkin started at around 12:00 in the afternoon,” he added.
It is reported that two women near the corner of Bada brick builder’s tent were hit by a heavy weapon fired from the Momeik junta council base on January 3 night. The two injured patients were sent to the hospital the next morning.
The revolutionary forces of Momeik informed the public to avoid the war in prior and are also said to be helping the refugees that arrived to them.
