RAKHINE STATE – According to local residents, the administrator of Mee Teik village in the northern part of Maungdaw township was caught up in a mine explosion on the evening of December 7th and his right ankle was amputated.
The 40-year-old U Maung Tha Tun, the administrator of Mee Teik village, who was hit by a mine while returning from fishing on the evening of December 7.
One of the witnesses said, “The administrator and 3 other villagers went to the creek to look for fish. When he returned to the village, the villagers came to the road. The administrator came from the border guard station. He directly stepped on a mine that was trapped near the border guard station. He broke his right ankle. The whole body was hit by shrapnels,” he said.
The place where the landmine was stepped on was near the border guard police station in Mee Teik village. The troops from that camp had abandoned the camp on November 14th due to an attack by the Arakan Army (AA).
“It may be that the mine was left behind when the camp was abandoned and their troops retreated. There may be more,” the local continued.
In Rakhine State, the Arakan Army (AA) and the Junta Council have resumed their fighting since November 13.
