TANINTHARYI DIVISION – According to the locals, a junta council police officer was killed after a police vehicle from Maungmagan Police Station in Launglon Township was intercepted and attacked.
It was known that the People’s Defence Forces (PDF) intercepted the junta council police while they were leaving Maungmagan Village by car at around 10:30 a.m. on June 23.
A local said that during the attack, Sergeant Clerk Ye Nyunt was killed and two others were said to have been injured.
The local continued, “We heard the continuous sounds of shooting. And then the sound of shooting stopped for a while and they fired again. We don’t know exactly where the shooting occurred. But we heard that it was near the police station.”
Another local mentioned that one more police was said to have been killed along with Sergeant Clerk Ye Nyunt. But the detailed information cannot be confirmed yet.
The number of casualties is still under investigation and it is not yet released which group carried out the attack.
After the attack, the dumb trucks carrying the junta council troops were said to have left Dawei and headed towards Maungmagan Village, at around 1 p.m.
At around 3 p.m. the junta council troops blocked Maungmagan road section with massive forces and checked the pedestrians.
There are also rumours that the junta council troops shot at a villager from Maungmagan Village in the evening. The detailed information cannot be yet confirm.
In December 2022 and In March 2023, the revolutionary forces had attacked Maungmagan Police Station.
