RAKHINE – Arakan Army (AA) comrades attacked the Mraung Bwae Police Station in Mrauk U Township on Thursday dawn after capturing the Mrauk U District Police Station.
The police station is located near the Yangon–Sittwe Highway Road, and around 70 junta soldiers are stationed there.
“AA comrades attacked the police station and fired small weapons since 4 a.m. Both sides exchanged fire, and the fighting frequently occurred today. Heavy artillery shells from Mrauk U and Minbya were fired and are still firing,” said a resident.
Mraung Bwae Village is located between Minbya and Mrauk U, and villagers have already fled in recent days because they’re afraid of ongoing battles.
During the battles, junta battalions from Minbya Kyein Taung and Mrauk U fired heavy artillery shells, according to Minbya residents.
“There’s not much distance between Minbya and Mraung Bwae, and the junta forces from Kyein Taung fired heavy artillery shells since 9 p.m. They fired heavy artillery shells the whole night, and over 20 shells were fired. Their shells headed toward Mraung Bwae, and it’s not the same as before. The launching of heavy artillery shells is too loud,” said a Minbya resident.
AA comrades captured the Mrauk U District Police Station in Mrauk U Town, where the fighting has intensified between AA and junta forces, according to the statement of the Three Brotherhood Alliance.
