SAGAING DIVISION – Nine members of the junta council, including Major Than Naing, who were fleeing from the battle at Yangyiaung camp of the junta council in the south of Tangpho Village, Kalay Township, have been arrested, according to local defence forces.
Five members of the junta council, including Major Than Naing, who were hiding in the fields of Myoetha Village while the defence forces were clearing the area after occupying the camp, were arrested on Friday (November 24), and four more were arrested on Sunday morning (November 26).
“They hid the weapons. When we interrogated them, they showed us the places where the guns were. Those who are caught were not caught in the same place. After one person was caught, another person was caught in another place,” said a member of Kalay Local People’s Defence Force.
The attack on Yangyiaung military camp started in the early morning of November 23, and was captured at around 11:00 a.m. Fifteen junta forces were killed and two were captured alive.
Around 50 junta forces were deployed at Yangyiaung camp including those from Kalay City Regional Operation Command. About 30 of them have been either killed and captured during the battle, and the defence forces are working to capture the rest of the junta council troops.
11 junta council soldiers who have been captured are currently being held in a school in the village and are being interrogated.
After the battle to capture the camp, the military situation in the south of Kalay is calm, and the Yanggyiaung camp is still under control by the local defence forces.
