TANINTHARYI DIVISION- According to the locals and the people’s defense comrades, it has been two days since the battle between the Military Council Army and the PDFs in Tanintharyi Township.
The military soldiers on four leading cars of the military rations convoy coming from Myeik City had a clash with the PDFs near Kanto village, Banglamut village tract, at around 10:00 a.m. on December 24 and around 7:30 a.m. on December 25.
“Gunshots and explosions can be heard. After the battle, there was no more (heavy) weapons being fired. The battle broke out a while, and calmed down,” said a resident of a nearby village.
Both battles were fought with heavy and small arms. Locals said that the exchange of fire took about half an hour.
The battle was fought jointly by the Myeik People’s Defense Organization (Pakapha- PDO) and the Tanintharyi Yoma People’s Defense Organization, and no members of the defense forces were harmed, according to their announcements.
Myeik PDO’s public information officer said, “The battle is taking place with cars at the front of the ration convoy. The military vehicles were hit by landmines, so there may be high junta casualties but no detailed information is known.”
Military soldiers arrested about four locals around Kanto village after the clash on December 24 and they have not been released, the residents said.
According to the locals and people’s defense comrades, the military council soldiers are still at the Banglamut village tract.
On the 20th and 21st of December, in Tanintharyi Township, the military Infantry Battalion (561) based in Nyaungpinkwin village, was under attack for two successive days.
Myeik PDF has warned the people of Tanintharyi Township not to travel unless there is an urgent matter as fighting can happen at any time.
