SAGAING DIVISION – The military council convoy that was leaving from Katha town of Sagaing region after withdrawing ration and salary was intercepted by the Joint Defense Forces of Indaw region, on Naba – Katha road around 1 a.m. on August 14.
According to a man close to the KPDF, the Regional Defense Joint Force intercepted and attacked the Junta Council Infantry Battalion (416) with around 100 terrorist soldiers in two 12-wheelers.
“They were going to retrieve military supplies, ration and their wages, and they went down from Katha within the night. At around 1 a.m., there was an attack between Katha and Indaw Road. I called this morning and there were quite a lot of injured military dogs. One car was damaged and had to be towed,” he said.
He said that the wounded and dead junta council members have been brought back to Indaw, and the exact number of casualties has not yet been confirmed.
A male resident of the Indaw said, “The battle lasted for about three hours, and during the battle, the junta council of Indaw supported by firing heavy weapons at the scene of the battle.”
“At around 4 a.m., we heard sounds of gunshot. Now I don’t hear any shots,” he added.
Kachin Independence Army (KIA), KPDF and the All Myanmar Students Democratic Front (ABSDF) joint forces were said to have participated in the attack.
After the fighting, the junta council troops temporarily blocked Indaw – Katha road.
Last August 2, a battle between junta army and the KIA, KPDF joint forces broke out near Naba Village, Indaw Township, Sagaing Region, and a civilian man was reportedly killed when the junta council opened fire on a passing car during the battle.
