SAGAING DIVISION – People’s Defence Force (PDF) joint forces launched an offensive on Shwepyiaye Town in Kanti District of Sagaing Division on November 23 morning. By the afternoon, eight prisoners of war (POWs) were captured and only a small junta outpost remains before the complete capture of the town, said Kanti District People’s Defence Organization (PDO).
“Today (November 23), we attacked the camps and outposts of the junta council and its subordinates Pyithusit militia and SNA (Shanni National Army) militia in Shwepyiaye Town amidst the airstrikes by the junta council. We managed to seize a large amount of weapon and ammunition and captured eight POWs. Only one small outpost is left to be attacked before we capture the entire town,” said an official from Kanti District PDO.
The eight POWs reportedly include junta soldiers as well as Pyithusit and SNA militants. Around 30 weapons including carbine rifles, G3 rifles, Tumi rifles and 60 mm launchers, and ammunition were seized.
The attack on junta camps at Shwepyiaye Town was jointly carried out by No. 1 Military Region PDF Battalion, Township PDO and PSO (People’s Security Organization) joint forces and allied revolutionary forces.
“If PDF manages to capture Shwepyiaye, they will have control over Chindwin River. The junta council is preparing defenses in Homalin and Phaungpyin. It is also said that Lwingyi Camp in Phaungpyin is under attack as well. Residents are fleeing because of the fighting,” said a resident of Phaungpyin.
