KAREN STATE – The Cobra Column reported that the Revolutionary Joint Forces attacked the junta troops advancing toward Lakhat Taung (Mountain) in Myawaddy Township, resulting in several junta casualties, including a major.
On August 15, starting around 3 a.m., heavy weapons were fired more than 300 times and the junta column launched the offensive in the Latkhat Mount area.
In addition, the junta regime reportedly launched aerial attacks; three times with a fighter plane, and opened fire thrice with a military chopper.
Cobra Column reported that fifteen junta soldiers died, including a Major and a Captain in the battle on August 15 and that some weapons and ammunition were seized.
It is announced that a 60mm commando launcher, one MA sniper, two MA4 rifles, three MA3 rifles, four MA2 rifles, one MA1, and one M16 (a total of 13 different weapons), ammunition, and other military equipment were confiscated.
It is also reported that two soldiers of the Joint Revolutionary Forces fell and five were wounded due to the heavy fire of the enemy.
Some telecommunication towers and religious buildings were also reportedly damaged in the fights.
After the alliance forces had seized the Latkhat Mount (junta) camp on July 21, the junta regime launched several offensive attacks to recapture the camp, including the attack on August 15 with excessive use of heavy weapons.
Despite this offensive, the Cobra Column has informed that the junta army has not even been able to approach the foot of Lakhat Mountain.
