SHAN STATE – Locals reported that a junta traffic police was shot dead near Bawdayone Monastery on Mandalay Street in Lashio, northern Shan State.
At past 10:30 a.m. on September 22, the traffic police at the Mandalay Street traffic lights chased after a car that ran the red light to extort money and was shot five times by the men on board.
“Because the electricity is irregular in Lashio, the traffic lights are also not functioning well. A car drove past the red light and the traffic police chased them on a motorcycle to demand money. Those on board opened fire on him,” relayed a witness.
It is said that the body of the traffic police was later collected by junta soldiers and police.
Another Lashio resident shared that the junta forces have blocked off the roads to Lashio and were conducting inspections.
“Both the entrance and exit have been shut off. Only big trucks are allowed to pass. All small vehicles have to undergo inspection,” said the resident.
Recently on September 19 around 5:30 p.m., an explosion near CS hotel in Lashio had killed one and injured five.
Since the military coup, unidentified murdered bodies have been frequently showing up in Lashio where the junta council has tightened security and there have also been multiple explosions with explosions frequently happening at hotels, according to the residents.
