KARENNI STATE – A Karenni military source said that there were casualties on both sides in the battle at Loikaw Prison.
In the third week of December, as 1111 operation, Karenni alliance forces raided Loikaw prison.
“In the days following the seizure of the state police office, there was a fierce fight from the 16th of this month until December 17th. It took place around Loikaw prison. Now, things are quiet,” the above source explained. He also informed that the military council used two warplanes in the battle at Loikaw Prison and bombed at least 20 times.
As of December 19, according to separate statements by Karenni forces, two revolutionary comrades were killed in the battle at Loikaw Prison.
The two revolutionary soldiers who passed away were Comrade Stevin (aka) Maung Oakka Aung of Loikaw Local PDF-Alpha 4 3rd squadron and Comrade Sunday of the Central Regional Military Command DMO Local PDF No. 1102 Battalion.
Some Karenni military sources said that there were also casualties from the junta council army, but the number has not yet been confirmed.
A military source said that the junta council used prisoners as human shields in Loikaw Prison, and the prison was built like a military camp.
With the 1111 operation of the Karenni Joint Forces, the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) has informed that they have taken control of about two-thirds of Loikaw city, including the Loikaw district court, and the state police office.
In addition, there are now more than 20 places where the junta council was stationed and more than 60 prisoners of war as well as nearly 300 various weapons seized by the Karenni forces in the 1111 operation.
