KARENNI STATE – Some local news sources stated that battles are intense in the Loikaw and Pekhon areas and the military council has been launching aerial bombardments.
It is reported that the fights re-emerged in Loikaw, where the situation has been calm for more than ten days, and the battle also started in Pekhon town on January 8.
“Yesterday (January 8), houses around the Dawukhu Dam Area, Loikaw were burned down in the fire started by heavy weapons explosions. Today, a fight started around 5 p.m.,” a resident of Loikaw told the media.
Similarly, in the battle of Pekhon, the police station and the general administration office caught on fire, and some places where the military council was stationed were seized by Karenni forces.
“Today (January 9) at 3 p.m., an airplane bombed here. A battle is going on in the city. It’s hard to pinpoint the exact location,” said a local news source in Pekhon.
The current military situation in Loikaw and Pekhon has not yet been confirmed or published by the Karenni Joint Force.
“Aerial attacks and heavy weapons are being used. The other things that can be seized will be confirmed after consultation with all the groups involved in the fighting,” said an official of the Karenni Joint Force.
In Karenni State where Operation 1111 started on November 11, 2023, the Karenni Alliance is trying to capture the major city, Loikaw as well as the military council’s support route Mobye and Pekhon. According to statistics, more than 70% of the target area are controlled by the Karenni Alliance.
