MAGWAY DIVISION – The Township Municipal Office in Chauk, Magway Division that has been collecting increased charges was attacked with a hand grenade around 9:45 a.m. on September 18 and the car of the chief officer was damaged, according to Chauk Guerrilla Force (CGF).
Bo. Pay Ta, the deputy leader of CGF said that they managed to launch the attack despite the presence of CCTV at the municipal office and its surroundings.
“We only threw one (grenade). Our main target was the place where (Ms.) Naing Naing Maw and Chief Officer Nay Man Aung were. Because of the presence of civilians, we made sure to not harm the people. The grenade bounced off a tree and went off right under the chief officer’s car, bursting the rear wheels. There was no harm to civilians. Our comrades had reached a safe place,” said Bo. Pay Ta.
The attack was said to be carried out because the municipal office followed the orders of the junta council to increase the charges despite multiple warnings (by revolutionary forces) to not oppress the people, to not increase the charges to please the power hungry dictators and to not threaten the people with unjust laws.
“We want to warm that we have received numerous complaints from the people regarding the water distribution officer, (Ms.) Naing Naing Maw, for her horrible conducts along with evidences. We want to tell the municipal staff to stop bullying the people and to join CDM (Civilian Disobedience Movement) alongside the people,” continued Bo. Pay Ta.
After the grenade attack, it is said that the entire road in front of the oil refinery and the road to the bridge at Myaynigone intersection were blocked off and three military vehicles fully loaded with junta soldiers arrived at the municipal office.
This attack was a joint operation between CGF and Chauk Township Guerrilla Force.
