MYANMAR – The European Union (EU) announced on April 26 that they are extending the sanctions on the military coup leaders and related individuals and organisations by one year.
A total of 103 individuals and 21 organisations are included in the sanctions by EU and they have their properties economic resources restricted. The sanctioned individuals are also banned from travelling to Europe. EU announced that the sanctions will be extended for one year till April 30, 2025.
“We made this decision based on the annual review of the deteriorating situation and emergency plans including the extreme human rights violations harm to democracy by the junta council in Myanmar,” stated the EU.
EU also decided to continue the ban on export of military weapons and communication equipment to Myanmar.
“It is obvious that the oppressions by the junta council are acts of terrorism without regard for its own civilians, extreme violations of basic human rights and also blatantly ignored basic principles of humanity,” said the EU.
