On August 11, in Okpho Township, Captain Aung Myo Thu, who is in charge of a company in LIB 6, based in Tame Myaut Village, asked a subordinate of his to clean the gun. It is reported that the soldier was testing the gun when the bullet went off and hit Captain Aung Myo Thu and killed him.
The army ordered his faminly to not describe his position and duties in the funeral invitation of the deceased captain, and buried his body inside the battalion compound. Captain Aung Myo Thu left behind a one-year-old child and his wife lives in Taungoo.
“The family does not believe that he was killed by an accidental bullet from the soldier within the same ranks. They believe that he was shot by an outside force. The army banned them from describing any of his military information in the funeral invitation, so he had to be described as a civilian. The junta army told the family that the soldier who shot him was also taken into custody and the body was buried in the army compound. Captain Aung Myo Thu was continuing to serve because he wasn’t approved of a medical pension,” said an army source.
