KARENNI STATE – It was reportedly known that education aid kits, stationaries, clothes for more than 7000 students and 300 teachers at 24 IDP schools in East Demoso are in need of support.
The students were said to be those displaced who fled due to the battles in the region and returned to Demoso Township when the fighting calmed down.
“Please chip in to support the children’s future education system. Even a single cent or a kyat is fine. Funds are needed at school also for volunteers and CDM staff,” said a spokesman of the Karenni Support Team (KNST).
Although there is no salary given for the volunteers, the villages’ households provided monthly support of 1000 kyats per household but the fund is not sufficient. People have also been facing water scarcity in the region, and the cost of fuel for vehicle and motors to get water supply and building the water storage tank are also costly.
According to the Progressive Karenni People Force (PKPF) statement on May 1, twenty-three IDP schools in Karenni State were burned and destroyed by junta army’s heavy weapons shelling and airstrikes between February 1, 2021 to April 30, 2024, and a school was destroyed in April 2024.
