SAGAING DIVISION – The junta council bombed Pyinhtaunglay Village and Pyinhtaunggyi Village in Ngate Village Tract, Katha Township for two days straight, reported the residents.
The two villages are located between Kyaukhtonegyi Village in Katha Township and Ngaoh Village in Shan State and were bombed by junta jets on March 1 and March 2 morning.
“The plane came and bombed at past 10 a.m. this morning (March 2). Both Pyinhtaunglay and Pyinhtaunggyi (Villages) were bombed. I’m not sure about the damages. The villages were bombed yesterday (March 1) as well. There were no human casualties but it is said that there were damages to the houses,” said a young man from Pyinhtaunglay Village.
According to the residents, Pyinhtaunglay and Pyinhtaunggyi Villages are located right next to each other and the junta forces dropped three bombs in the evening of March 1 around 4 p.m. and two bombs at around 10 a.m. on March 2.
“There was only one plane. They bombed us twice this morning (March 2). There was no raid nor battle, they just bombed us out of nowhere,” said a middle-aged local resident.
Pyinhtaunglay and Pyinhtaunggyi Villages are located in the triangle region at the border of Sagaing Division, Kachin State and Shan State.
The aerial bombings of the junta council caused damages to civilian homes but it is not yet clear if there were any civilian casualties.
Previously on December 28, 2023, the junta council used four fighter jets as well as a Mi-35 helicopter to bomb and attack Kyaukhtonegyi Village in Katha Township, damaging the houses in the village.
Katha Township is located alongside the Ayeyarwaddy River and is of strategic importance regarding the waterways.
