TANINTHARYI DIVISION – More than ten detainees who have recently been abducted by junta troops in Kawthaung City are not allowed to meet their family members, according to the residents.
After the junta troops abducted two youths at the hospital lane of Ayemya Kanthar Ward on June 25, a male restaurant owner was arrested at his home the next day (June 26), at around 11:30 p.m.
“The reason for his arrest is not clear. The junta troops forced him to open the door and abducted him for some inquiry while he was having dinner. The family members are not allowed to meet him. It was also reported that the previously detained youths are beaten and interrogated and their families are worried,” said a local.
Moreover, four men were reportedly abducted from their homes in Padauk Shwewar Ward and Ayemya Kanthar Ward by the junta troops on June 25 at 2 a.m., and before that, three young men were also arrested on June 24. The detainees are reportedly kept at the Kawthaung Police Station, where they were beaten and interrogated by the junta regime troops, and their family members were not allowed to meet them since the detainment.
Recently on June 22, a Pyu Saw Htee (junta-backed militia) leader and the deputy leader were shot and killed at their outpost by Kawthaung People’s Defence Force.
