SAGAING DIVISION – The gold jewelers in Sagaing are reportedly panic-stricken by the junta’s data collection of the owner names and the amount of money being traded in each shop.
It was reported that data entry forms (that inquire shop owner’s name and amount of money traded) are distributed in jewelry shops in Sagaing Division on June 27.
“Junta council inquired data on the capital, daily sales, the regular customer’s name and address, the new customer’s address, and a lot of other information from the local jewelry shops. They also notified that these data needed to be filled in and sent before the 25th of every month. Previously, they collected a list of shops in town and now they collected the list of owners and daily transaction amounts. I don’t know why they are inquiring such data,” said a gold shop owner.
It is also reported that junta soldiers and Pyu Saw Htee members often enter the gold shops in Sagaing, demanding millions of kyats for various reasons such as donations and security payments.
