MYANMAR – The National League for Democracy (NLD) publicly announced that it will not recognize the election which the junta intends to hold and will be opposing it, in the announcement published on September 27, the 35th anniversary of the party.
As a political party, it is supposed to compete at the election. However, just as it opposed the 2010 election due to the unfairness such as not following the rules and regulations of democracy and the unjust election law, the sham election being planned by the junta council which illegally staged the coup will be opposed and not be recognised, mentioned the NLD.
Since the coup, the junta forces have been illegally abducting the activists, and civilians including the members of the NLD. There are 15,838 civilians who have been detained including 1,769 NLD members, announced the NLD.
Moreover, among 4,011 civilians who have been illegally tortured and killed by the junta forces, there were 97 NLD members.
Among 688 civilians whose properties have been sealed by the junta forces, 373 are NLD members. The junta army have illegally burgled, detonated and burned the NLD offices including the headquarter for about 160 times, as mentioned on the announcement.
