KARENNI STATE – A person helping displaced people said that due to low rainfall in Karenni State, most of the IDP camps are experiencing water shortage problems.
He said that the shortage of water is due to decreased rainfall since the beginning of September, the lack of water proof sheets necessary to store water and the need to move camps frequently.
“It must be said that the problem of water shortage is a constant problem for every refugee camp. There is less rain. And even if it rains, there are no water proof sheets to make tanks for storing the rainwater,” he explained.
In addition to the difficulties in storing water, the frequent heavy artillery fire and aerial bombardments by the military council forcing frequent relocation of camps also contributed to the water shortage.
A person helping the refugees explained that because of the military council’s attacks, refugees often have to camp in places far away from water sources.
Although water is delivered by cars to the camps where water is currently scarce, the people who are helping are appealing to the public to help as the funds for the necessary fuel for transportation, water proof sheets and general expenses are low.
