MYANMAR – The people are urging to boycott the entertainers who performed at the anniversary ceremony of Myanmar National Airline (MNA) which was attended by the junta leader.
The ceremony was held at Melia Hotel on September 16 and Aung Htet, Hay Mar Nay Win and Esther Dawt Chin Sung were a few of the entertainers lined up at the event.
Singer Hay Mar Nay Win is being criticized for performing in front of the junta dictator despite her being a descendant of a member of “30 comrades” who fought against the colonists for the independence of Myanmar.
“She just held a solo show. Someone like her at such a show is already toeing the line. Does she not feel bad or sorry for own grandfather?” said a woman in her thirties.
Similarly, Chin ethnic singer Esther Dawt Chin Sung is also being criticized for not being considerate to the Chin people facing numerous dangers at the hand of the junta regime. Chin Music Video Page announced that no more of her songs will be uploaded from the page.
A Chin man commented, “At least she should be considerate to Thantlang that was burned to ashes,” Thantlang was the first town to be burnt by junta arson.
A member of a Yangon based urban guerrilla force said that even though they don’t mind the entertainers doing performances to earn, they should at least stay away from junta-related events.
