SAGAING DIVISION-In Shwe Bo District, Depayin Township, S&C group has been planting rain rice to provide food to the public, those facing war, disaster, and fire victims.
It is said that the 100-day-old Ayeyarmin rice was planted on four acres of land, started on April 1, and completed on April 30.
After grinding the grain from the plantation, it would be used to provide CDM staff and displaced persons, according to the person in charge of S&C, Mr. Soe Moe Aung.
In rice cultivation, it is not cultivated with irrigation water, but by pumping water through a well with an engine.
The head of the S&C group said that in the past, rice was grown using Kaboe irrigation water in the Depayin area, but since the dam staff didn’t work there anymore, there was no irrigation water. So, they had to use well water.
The rain rice cultivation was done with the cooperation of local people, and the S&C group only needed to provide the cost of gasoline for plowing machines and water pumps, fertilizers, soil, and rice crops.
After the coup d’état by the military council, the farmers in the Anyar region avoided war as their house was set on fire and frequent offensives by junta columns. So, the farmlands have not been cultivated until the wild plants grow.
