MYANMAR- Yangon-based foreign employment agencies have confirmed that the Ministry of Labor directly order that men are temporarily suspended from going abroad for work.
“The Ministry of Labor temporarily suspense men from working abroad by the Military Council Office. I don’t know when it will reopen. However, the suspension would be lifted again and men might probably need letters of recommendation and sign contract to leave for work abroad. He said that the agencies must take more responsibility. This suspension would not be forever. But, they say it won’t be as easy as before. When I asked them again, I found out that there will be letters of recommendation and guarantees for military service and tax returns to the state,” stated a Yangon-based foreign employment agency.
The Military Council’s Ministry of Labor announced the suspension of foreign job calls for men starting May 1, (without issuing an official order and only verbally informing) to foreign employment agencies. It is learned that the military council is only approve job applications submitted before April 30.
“Until now, the Ministry of Labor has not issued an official notification to foreign employment agencies. We have also seen it in the news. When we contacted them, the Ministry of Labor told us to halt the demand for men,” said the person in charge of the Malaysian Foreign Employment Agency in Kyauktada Township.
After the military service law was announced and activated on February 10, 2024, many young people left home to work abroad. After almost 3 months, on May 1, men’s permission to go abroad for work was temporarily suspended.
