BAGO DIVISION – KNU (Karen National Union) announced on July 8 that 32 junta soldiers died and 22 were injured in the recent five consecutive days of fierce fights in Nyaunglebin District.
Starting from July 1 till July 5, there were a total of nine battles in Kyauktaga, Shwekyi and Kyaukkyi Townships and junta troops have been firing heavy weapons towards the villages daily after suffering heavy losses.
A member from local PDF added that most of the battles took place in Kyaukkyi and Kyauktaga areas, that the junta forces have been firing heavy artillery daily into the villages and that the rest of the information were as per the statement released by KNU.
While the junta’s side experienced heavy fatalities, a member from KNLA Brigade 3 reportedly fell in battle and another was injured. As junta troops fired more than a hundred rounds of artillery during this period, two innocent civilians died and six others were wounded.
Moreover, according to KNU, thirteen houses, one hut and three cows were killed and damaged respectively. Junta forces also abducted forty-eight civilians and seized their belongings including valuables and burned down five houses.
Due to above mentioned circumstances, more than eight thousand civilians from villages including Yaytwinkonegyi, Oakshikkone, Ownpin Su, Thapyaykone, Wattuu, A Nyar Su, Ngangwarsate, Ngapaeinn, Innpayi, Kyauktan, Kanyikyo, Latkhan, Doetan, Kankalay, Yaytwinkone, Thamin Inn Kone, Chwetalae, Talaeduu, Talaesan, Kholone, Talakhin and Nazan, have been fleeing for their safety.
