KAREN STATE – The Karen Human Rights Group (KHRG) has announced that more than 500 civilians have been injured or killed due to airstrikes and artillery fire by the junta council in the southeastern region of Myanmar this year.
The KHRG published the number of civilian casualties in the year 2023 on International Human Rights Day, which falls on December 10.
It is reported that the Air Force of the junta council conducted nearly 100 airstrikes in the southeastern regions this year, resulting in the deaths of at least 134 civilians.
Similarly, KHRG said that at least 384 civilians were killed or wounded due to heavy weapons fired by the junta council this year.
However, the number of injured and killed is not listed separately.
Due to aerial attacks and heavy weapon fire, schools, hospitals and clinics, religious buildings and civilians homes were also damaged and destroyed, KHRG reported.
The southeastern regions of Myanmar include the Karen State, Karenni State (Kayah), Mon, Tanintharyi, Eastern part of Bago and the eastern and southern regions of Shan State.
