MYANMAR – Most of the gas stations along the road connecting Yangon, Bago and Ayeyarwaddy are running out of fuel, and some stations are only selling limited quantities.
A driver driving the Pyay-Kyangin-Hinthada-Yangon highway line said that he had to stop because he couldn’t buy fuel at Pyay on December 9.
On December 10 also, a driver said that most of the gas stations along the Pyay-Yangon Road that crosses the Ayeyarwaddy Division were closed, and there were queuing lines of cars at the open ones.
“You can’t get gas even at big gas stations like Denko or Max. You can only buy 30,000 Kyats worth of fuel per car at the open stations and some shops limit it to as low as 10,000 Kyats,” said a private car owner.
Some of the gas stations along Yangon Road are closed by covering up the signs or closing the gates.
The drivers said that the employees of the open shops also only waved their hands to signal that there was no fuel.
“The military junta won’t admit the fuel shortage. They are forcibly claiming that they can handle it,” said a YBS driver from Yangon.
The junta council is making frequent announcements and reports these days calling the shortage of fuel false news, and claiming that fuel ships from abroad are continuously docked at Thilawa Port and that fuel is being distributed across the country through relevant storage tank stations.
