SHAN STATE – It was reported that a landslide caused by heavy rain crashed a house and killed a couple inside, in Sansai Township, Tachileik City, in Eastern Shan State, on Sunday (May 14).
The landslide occurred at around 3 a.m., crashing a house and killing the couple who were asleep inside the house, stated a Tachileik Humanitarian Aid Group.
“It has been raining the whole day and night for two days. I heard that there were landslides in three to four places. So far, the number of casualties was said to be two,” said a resident of Sansai Township.
It had been raining all day since May 13 until landslides occurred on May 14. Mr. Nay Aung (23) and Ms. Zalat Phyu (22) were reportedly killed in the landslide.
In the aftermath of the Mocha Cyclone, meteorologists warned about the heavy rain all over the country.
The National Unity Government’s Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management also warned about floods, heavy waterfalls, and landslides in hilly regions.
