KAREN STATE – Nagar Ni Column announced on May 4 that repeated attacks on the junta reinforcement column that was heading to Taungsun Camp at Kyainseikgyi Township which was under attack by the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People’s Defence Force (PDF) resulted in junta casualties.
KNLA, PDF Southern Military Region Special Operations Force (SOF), Lion Battalion Commando Column, Federal Wings and Cloud Wings jointly launched an attack on Taungsun Camp on April 17 and captured the camp on May 3.
Meanwhile, Nagar Ni Column and KNLA Battalion 16 repeatedly blocked off and attacked the junta reinforcement column from light infantry 403 headed to Taungsun Camp and Anankwin Strategic Base, resulting in intense battles on April 28.
It is said that the junta council carried out six airstrikes using jet fighters, two using Mi35 helicopters and also fired 155mm Howitzer cannons from Waekali Artillery Battalion and 81mm shells from Anankwin, resulting in the battle site getting torched.
Nagar Ni Column announced that six junta forces were killed and eight were injured, as confirmed by military sources, while one MA4 gun and ammunition were seized. Nagar Ni Column also informed that four of its soldiers were injured in the battle.
Taungsun Camp at the Myanmar-Thai border was attacked and captured with much difficulties with casualties among the revolutionary forces, according to SOF. It is also said that 26 junta forces were killed and over 40 weapons were seized in that battle while 13 junta troops including the battalion commander ran away.
SOF Commander Aung San Shar commented that the capture of the camp is of great help to the territorial control in the region.
