MYANMAR – Data for Myanmar released that nearly 4,000 of residential houses were burned and destroyed by the arson attacks of terrorist junta army in Rakhine State, Mandalay, Sagaing and Magway divisions, in April.
A total of 3,960 civilians’ houses were burned down by junta in April, 1,500 houses in Buthidaung Town in Rakhine State, 1,220 in Mandalay Division, 997 in Sagaing Division and 229 in Magway Division, according to the figure of Data for Myanmar.
“According to local news sources, 2,000 to 3,000 houses in Buthidaung Town, Rakhine State have been burned down. Only the approximate number has been included and will be updated when a confirmed number is available,” Data for Myanmar said.
The actual data on the ground may likely be higher than the reported figure. In Mandalay Division, more than 1,500 of residential houses in at least six villages in Myingyan Township (the highest numbers in Mandalay Division) were burned to the ground, according to the Myingyan People Strike Committee. Similarly, at least four villages in Madaya Township have been torched by the junta army.
The terrorist junta army committed arson raids in Shar Taw Village in Shwebo Township on April 6, devastating more than 170 residential houses and two elderly grandparents died in the fire, according to locals. There were also junta’s arson attacks in Sagaing and Taze townships.
The highest losses of residential houses by junta arson raids occurred in Yay Myat Ni Village of Tilin Township in Magway Division, and more than 200 of civilians’ houses burned to the ground on the afternoon of April 6.
The Data for Myanmar released that a total of 88,373 residential houses were burned and destroyed by the junta army and junta-controlled organizations, during more than three years of the military coup, until the end of April 2024. The actual figure might be higher than the reported figures as there might have junta’s arson attacks in unknown, poorly communicated and remote areas.
