SHAN STATE – Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) announced on December 16 night that they have successfully defeated and captured all junta bases in Nhamsan of northern Shan State and that four Howitzers, various types of weapons, mines and ammunition as well as military equipment were confiscated.
TNLA launched the battle to capture Nhamsan on December 10 and achieved victory six days later on December 15. It is said that all junta bases in Nhamsan under the personal command of junta Division 101 commander were all cleared on December 15 evening.
TNLA successfully captured the town despite the multiple airstrikes and artillery attacks carried out by the junta council.
During the battle for Nhamsan, dead bodies of over 60 junta troops were recovered while 64 prisoners of war: 30 junta troops, 3 military family members, six police forces and 25 police family members were captured.
The military base in Nhamsan was stationed by Pakokku based Division 101 and its subordinate Infantry 258 while the junta council’s ordnance regiment 626/929 is also based in Nhamsan.
While the junta base in Nhamsan was under attack, junta infantry 130 in Manton fired endless rounds of heavy artillery and the junta air force also conducted one count of airstrike using a Mi35 chopper, five counts of airstrikes using ART-42, 19 counts of airstrikes using jet fighters and five counts of airstrikes using Y12 planes.
The junta council also carried out attacks targeting civilian zones and three residents of Nhamsan were said to have been killed as a result.
In addition, religious buildings in town such as the pagodas at Padamyar Pagoda and the Nhamsan Myoma Ginechote Monastery as well as the primary school in Ngonsai Village were destroyed by the artillery shells and airstrikes while over 40 houses were damaged and 14 houses were burned down by the aerial bombings.
Nhamsan Township has been a self-administered (Taung Paing State) of Ta’ang Sawbwars (chieftains) until the military coup in March, 1959 ended the rule of Sawbwar Sao Khun Pan Sein.
TNLA announced that Nhamsan which has been under the rule of the dictator for 64 years is completely rid of the junta dictator on the evening of December 15, 2023 and returned to the original owners, the Ta’ang people on December 16, 2023, the Ta’ang New Year of 2715.
