AYEYARWADDY DIVISION – It was known that the junta council police arrested and prosecuted a member of the junta council’s own political front Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) for interference with public duty, in Pathein Town, Ayeyarwaddy Division.
Sources close to the police station mentioned that while the junta police were checking the household guest lists in Ward No.5, a member of USDP asked the police to check his house and the police punched him and took him away.
The source mentioned that the USDP member “compelled the police to check his house, but the police didn’t check. So, they argued. The police only checked the houses they wanted. As he interfered like this while they were working against the clock due to the understaffed police, it caused friction.”
The police force reportedly charged the member of USDP who asked to check the household guest lists at his house under penal code 332, for interference with public duty.
A former police officer mentioned that penal code 332 can impose a fine as the minimum punishment, three year imprisonment as the maximum punishment, or both of the punishments.
