MON STATE – According to sources close to the military, the junta checkpoint on the Yangon-Mawlamyein Highway, near the old Shwe Thanlwin tollgate in Dorak Village, Bilin Township, was blasted in a drone attack on Thursday morning (August 24). Two people, including a policeman, were reportedly injured.
The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the People’s Defense Force (PDF) alliance reportedly launched a drone attack on the junta checkpoint at 7:30 a.m. on August 24.
The grenade dropped from an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV drone) exploded inside the checkpoint gate, injuring a policeman and a traveling civilian.
It is reported that the injured were transported to Bilin Township Hospital with the help of a Social Relief Organization.
An official of Thaton District KNU stated that follow-up investigations are still ongoing regarding the attack and that the joint forces were able to withdraw safely.
Due to the attack on the Bilin Checkpoint, the Yangon-Mawlamyein Road was blocked for over an hour, and only at around 8:30 a.m. traffic resumed normally, reported the locals.
Since the coup, the Bilin checkpoint has been attacked by the KNLA joint forces at least five times and junta casualities were reported.
